VOLUME IV ISSUE 2

I was on set for one day while She Said Films’ digital series Running With Violet (season 2) was being shot. The location for the day was a home in Toronto’s west end. From the outside I would have described the house as large-ish… until I walked in the side door and had to step over boots and winter coats and too many people to count. Searching for a face I knew, I moved through room after room and found people everywhere! No matter how small the corner, someone was in it, stationed with some expensive piece of media equipment and a job to do. This was to be 21 days of shooting at many different locations and the only thing that seemed to get these unflappable people off their game was access to snacks. I was there only one day and somehow managed to get into a fight! I had to wonder: What looked to me, an outsider, like chaos may have been someone else’s calm.

Do some creatives make their best work in the eye of the storm? For this volume of She Said Notes our focus was placed on conversations with some of the creatives from Running With Violet’s cast and crew. In our interviews we asked questions and got enlightening answers regarding their experiences of calm and chaos, on set and in their own artistic practice. Some of the issues will be supplemented with bonus pieces, short works pulled from the creative writing community that unpack the chaos and calm of art making from a different angle.

Keep calm and carry on!

Natalie
